Editorial Review for River Ranch Lodge – by Gayot.com
The Scene
This picturesque, wood-shingled property dates back to 1888. It was rebuilt in 1950 and served as headquarter for numerous diplomats during the 1960 Olympics in Squaw Valley. It is busiest during rafting- (June to September) and ski (mid-December to April) seasons.
The Details
The lodge takes full advantage of its location on the banks of the Truckee River. Most of the 19 guest rooms have balconies with river views, and the curved dining room is cantilevered over the water. The decor is charming and rustic, featuring antiques, lodgepole pine bed frames, down comforters, quilts and lots of windows. A second dining room, The Fireplace Room, is available for private dinner parties of up to 50. Additionally, the riverside patio hosts a daily barbecue lunch in the summer and is a favorite site for weddings (available in the spring and fall). During the winter months, the River Ranch Bar is a popular après ski destination.
